USciences Provost Dr. Russell J. DiGate announcement to the community:
After a long and valued length of service to USciences, Alan Sims has decided to retire from his position of Registrar, effective September 16.
In his time with us, Alan has developed and maintained a trusted, collaborative relationship with the Faculty Senate and other faculty governance bodies. He’s been a consultative partner through the years with the colleges, academic departments, other administrative departments, and individual faculty and staff members. Sims is a valued friend and colleague.
His accomplishments are many, including developing and maintaining a consistent and professional data stewardship of student information; he’s also educated all of us on the requirements for FERPA compliance; and provided guidance and interpretation on many occasions.
Many of the things we take for granted today are here to a large part because of Alan’s work. His efforts brought us the standardized class schedule template that enabled USciences to maximize classroom utilization; he coordinated the adoption of a centralized scheduling of conference rooms campus-wide, was part of the team that implemented WebAdvisor which enabled web registration, My Advisees and Ed Plan, web grading, online access to academic information for students and faculty, online course evaluations, and web based room scheduling.
His work with Leslie Bowman editing the academic policies sections of the University Catalog, and his review of the Student Handbook has been instrumental in ensuring consistency of information.
Away from USciences, Alan has provided leadership in professional organizations including President of NJ-NY ACRAO and Vice President of Middle States ACROA.
For all of us who have worked with Alan over the past decade, it is hard to imagine life without Alan as Registrar. I am grateful to Alan for his years of service, and also for his consideration in providing us with advance notice of his intent to retire. Alan will be with us to see us through the start of the fall semester, and after that join me in wishing him well as he and his wife Anne get to spend time together traveling and pursuing their personal interests.
Preparations are underway to launch a search for Alan’s successor. Our plan is to have a new Registrar in place prior to Alan’s departure.
After careful consideration, USciences has engaged the services of Scott Healy Associates to assist the University in its search for a new registrar. Scott Healy and Associates has been a leader in the services they provide for higher education since 1998. They have extensive experience in national searches for leadership positions in enrollment management, admissions, registrar, financial aid and student affairs.
A committee to work with Scott Healy Associates includes:
Paula Lehrberger, Chair (Financial Aid)
James Yarrish, Administrative Support for the Committee (Provost Office/Staff Assembly)
Elisabeth Morlino, (Faculty/Senate)
Cathy Poon (Faculty)
Gus DiStefano (Admission)
John Masciantonio (IT)
Michael Kenney (IT/Information Security)
Ross Radish (Student Affairs)
