On Sept. 15, 2010, three students from University of the Sciences will assist Pennsylvania Bio with a celebration to honor founder and former president Dennis M. “Mickey” Flynn. Members of USciences wind ensemble, Zhimeng Jin PharmD’14, Joseph Plaksin Psy’11, and Jonathan Kaiser PharmD’15, will entertain guests at the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts during the evening’s cocktail reception. The trio of flute, clarinet, and oboe will be playing Classical and Baroque repertoire by such composers as Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, and Bach.

“We are honored that members of the wind ensemble will be a part of this special event for Pennsylvania Bio,” said Kim Robson, USciences’ director of musical activities. “This trio has played at numerous receptions on-campus, and we welcome opportunities to share the talent of our students with colleagues, alumni, and friends.”

The evening at the Kimmel Center will recognize Flynn and thank him for his more than 30 years of dedication and contributions to the industry. Prior to joining Pennsylvania Bio, Flynn served as president of Malvern-based Puresyn, Inc., executive vice president and chief operating officer of Berwick Corporation, and president and CEO of Legend Pharmaceuticals, a nationwide cooperative for independent drug retailers.

Pennsylvania Bio serves as a catalyst to ensure the Commonwealth is a global leader in biosciences by developing a cohesive community that unites the region's biotechnology, pharmaceutical, research, and financial strengths.

At USciences, students have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of musical activities. The music minor allows students who have an interest in music to deepen their knowledge and ability in this discipline while attending the University. Students also may take music courses and music lessons at the University of the Arts' School of Music through a student exchange program. Additionally, up to nine different chamber ensembles are offered each semester for students to join. These groups include the Kingsessing Players comprised of the wind, guitar, string, brass, and jazz ensembles as well as the Kingsessing Singers chorus and chamber choir. The Kingsessing Players and Singers perform on-campus concerts at the end of each semester in addition to various community and campus events.
