USP’s Honors Program welcomed its inaugural class of inductees at the first Honors Colloquium on Thursday, April 17. The Honors Program is an innovative program designed to recruit and develop the finest students and offer them an opportunity for specialized, intensive learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
To celebrate the occasion, Dava Sobel, the N.Y. Times best-selling author of books such as Longitude, Galileo’s Daughter, and The Planets, presented the keynote speech titled “The Quest for Longitude.”
Following Sobel’s talk, the 11 members of the class of 2008 were officially inducted into the Honors Program in front of their family friends, and USP faculty and staff in the McNeil STC’s Astra Zeneca Auditorium. The Honors Program is open to students in all majors, though not everyone can be accepted into this small, highly-motivated group of students.
Inductees are honors scholars and will be distinguished both at Commencement and on their final academic transcript.
