Since joining USciences in 2005, Bill Ashton has played an integral role as professor, founding dean of Mayes College of Healthcare Business and Policy, and associate provost and vice president of strategic business development.  In July 2010, Ashton accepted the role of senior vice president of external affairs, one of five members of the President’s Cabinet.

Today, in a world of continuous change, each and every university is facing obstacles to adapt, grow and thrive. As senior vice president of external affairs, I am excited to utilize the knowledge I’ve acquired from over 30 years in the corporate world to ensure USciences’ continued prominence.

The Department of External Affairs represents four sectors that collectively focus on building relationships with the outside community to bring additional opportunities and financial success to USciences. These departments include: Business Development and Technology Transfer, Institutional Advancement, Community Affairs and Government Relations, and Corporate Relations.  Throughout the summer, I have met with each individual department to discover the “ins-and-outs” of their specific function.

Together our team will determine how best we can serve the University in achieving its larger goals. We will play an active role in determining ways to differentiate ourselves from other area colleges and universities as well as discern how to better attract students interested in healthcare and the sciences. Additionally, we will identify strategic tactics for development and create partnerships to improve upon the stellar programs and curricula offered at the University.

Personally, I am thrilled to be a part of USciences’ growth as both a staff and faculty member. I believe in the objectives we have set forth in External Affairs and value my connection to the University as a professor, teaching courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Inevitably, teaching strengthens my commitment to the University’s business development. Enhancing the USciences’ experience is vital, as we are responsible for the healthcare and science leaders of tomorrow.
