UPDATE: The 2011 Pink-A-Thon raised over $4,000 to benefit the Linda Creed Foundation thanks to the approximately 500 students who participated this year. "Pink-A-Thon 2011 turned out to be an amazing event," said Vaishali H. Desai BI'12, PHB'13, Pink-A-Thon committee president. "Hopefully, this year we raised awareness about Pink-A-Thon and this way we can raise more and improve on Pink-A-Thon 2012!" Dancing the night away for a good cause is what some 400 USciences students will be doing starting Friday night, Oct. 21 and heading into the wee hours of the morning on Saturday. The second annual Pink-A-Thon will take over the Athletic/Recreation Center (ARC) between 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. as the students raise money for the Linda Creed Foundation: Fighting Breast Cancer with Heart (
http://www.lindacreed.org/).
"The goal is to bring the campus together to support one great cause and to have fun," said Vaishali H. Desai BI'12, PHB'13, Pink-A-Thon committee president. "Last year, we raised over $3,000. The goal this year is to raise over $4,000."
Pink-A-Thon is a dance marathon at heart with the theme "Changing the World…One Dance Move at a Time." But after only three students made it through to the end of last year's all nighter, Desai said they made a change in the format to shorten the event and add more activities. There will be free food, prizes, games, video games--like, what else, Dance Dance Revolution--henna tattoos, face painting, raffles and prizes, an NFL style combine, and more.
"There are many more student organizations taking part this year," said Desai. "We have 12 organizations, and we ask them to bring an activity to do with the students."
Desai also said they are more than a third of the way to their goal thanks to advance sales of Pink-A-Thon wristbands that are needed to enter the event.
Throughout this week, students can advance purchase the wristbands for $5 at Wilson (Tuesday from 5-7 p.m.) or at the ARC (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday open to close and Friday all day leading up to the event). There's also a t-shirt for $10. Or better yet, buy both the wristband and t-shirt as a combo pack for $13. All proceeds benefit the Linda Creed Foundation.
If you have any questions, please don't ask those guys running around campus dressed head to toe in pink--they will only be handing out promotional items for the event and can't speak.
