University of the Sciences has named Dr. Bryan Kim coordinator for the health sciences program in the University’s Samson College of Health Sciences.

While advising students in their academic and professional careers as coordinator of the health sciences program, Dr. Kim will continue working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He began his postdoctoral training at the UPenn in 2010 and plans to finish by August 2012. In addition to his position in health sciences, Dr. Kim will also be teaching and developing courses in the Exercise Science and Wellness Management Program.

Dr. Kim’s main interest is working with minorities. His current research focus involves a pilot study that examines motivational text messaging to promote walking among older African Americans. In 2009, Dr. Kim received the Dissertation Award from the Gerontological Society of America where he created a guided exercise. The exercise was an imagery intervention to alleviate the fear of falling in older adults. In the future, he will research the dietary behaviors among older minorities and create effective studies that will help reduce health disparities.

Dr. Kim is a graduate of Temple University with a PhD in Kinesiology. He received a BA in psychology and an MA in applied physiology and kinesiology from University of Florida.

A former three-time Olympic (1996, 2000, 2004) swimmer Dr. Kim represented South Korea in the 200 and 400-meter individual medley events.
