Three APhA committees, Operation Diabetes, Operation Heart, and Operation Self-Care, teamed up to create an educational, fun-filled fashion show with a goal to change more than just clothes. The organization's focus is to educate the audience about the overall health benefits of smoking cessation, with particular emphasis on patients with heart disease, diabetes, and heartburn. Operation Heart will also host a blood pressure screening before the start of the fashion show.
APhA members will divide into six couples and compete in several runway categories, including USciences spirit wear, international attire, and a smoking cessation theme. In between rounds, APhA members will engage the audience with educational presentations and a raffle giveaway. Pharmacy professors Daniel Hussar
, PhD, and Katherine Koffer
PharmD, will discuss the consequences of smoking and best practices for individuals planning to quit.
The student-run show drew a crowd of nearly 100 spectators last year, and plans to make an even larger impact with its second show. All proceeds raised will benefit the American Cancer Society. Join in this year as USciences lights up the runway for health awareness.
