The University of the Sciences Board of Trustees officially named board chairman Marvin Samson, CEO of Samson Medical Technologies, interim president on Sept. 8, 2011. The appointment follows the retirement of Dr. Philip P. Gerbino on August 31. The Board also voted to bestow emeritus status on Dr. Gerbino as president emeritus in addition to Linwood F. Tice professor emeritus.

A world-renowned leader in injectable manufacturing and delivery systems, Samson has served on the University’s board in numerous capacities since 1991, including vice chair since 2000. He is founder and chief executive officer of Samson Medical Technologies, LLC, a company specializing in injectable drug delivery systems and programs for hospital and alternate site pharmacists.
Dr. Gerbino announced his retirement on May 12, 2011. A graduated of the institution as a student in 1969, he would go on to serve as a faculty member and administrator, and had been president of USciences since 1995.
