On April 5, 13 from UScience's Philadelphia College of Pharmacy students headed to the Pennsylvania state capitol for the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Legislative Day. They were part of more than 300 pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy students from across Pennsylvania “to demonstrate how the erosion of pharmacy business into mail order pharmacies is severely hurting the pharmacy profession in Pennsylvania.”

The PPA program is designed to enhance students’ understanding of interacting with legislators and participating in professional advocacy.
Prior to Legislative Day, P1 student Hansneet Sarang PharmD’14 attended the Second Annual Government Relations Advocacy for Student Pharmacists (GRASP) weekend program with other pharmacy students from across the state of Pennsylvania. She was an effective leader in leading students on campus and students who are members of APHA/ASP to attend the Pharmacy Legislative Day in Harrisburg on April 5.
A week later, 35 sixth-year P3 students from the Physical Therapy program, along with four PT faculty, took to Harrisburg for Student Lobby Day. Their effort was part of leadership and professional advocacy class taught by Dr. Kay Scanlon, assistant professor of physical therapy.
The students met with 12 legislators/legislative aides and were announced on the house floor. In addition, they had a photo op with Rep. James R. Roebuck from the 188th Legislative District which represents USciences (photo at left).
As an extension of the course, on April 19, the PT students hosted a Community Health Screen in the ARC.
