
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia’s Alumni Association presented Kenneth Leibowitz with the Honorary Alumnus Award during its annual ceremony on September 26, 2009. The award is bestowed annually upon a non-alumnus who has shown exemplary dedication and commitment to the mission of the University.
Leibowitz, an assistant professor of communication, joined the institution in 1978 as a faculty member in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Over the past three decades, he has continued to teach communication courses and has held administrative appointments as director of institutional research, coordinator for institutional assessment, and director of special assessment projects. For 16 years, he has given University graduates a voice on campus through the annual Alumni Survey.
Leibowitz has been a consultant to numerous pharmaceutical companies, pharmacy associations, and healthcare organizations for research, policy, organizational development, and professional education initiatives. He co-developed the National Patient Counseling Competition and has served as the on-site director of the competition since 1985. He has contributed to the development of 13 pharmacy continuing education programs, including A Matter of Trust: A Program in Pharmacist-Patient Relations; Inter-Professional Communication for Pharmacists; and Counseling Self-Treating Patients Quickly and Effectively.
The recipient of several teaching and service recognition awards, Leibowitz attended Rutgers University, West Virginia University, and Temple University. He lives in Newtown, Pa., with his wife Becky, one dog, two cats, two cockatiels, and many fish.
