Dr.
Philip P. Gerbino, President of University of the Sciences in
Philadelphia, was elected to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Presidents Council at its Oct. 30 meeting in
Indianapolis. Dr. Gerbino is one of four new members and will begin his four-year term at the end of the 2009 NCAA Convention which will be held from January 14 to 17, 2009, in
Washington, D.C.
Dr. Gerbino, who replaces Eddie Moore, Jr., of Virginia State, currently chairs the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) council of presidents and has been a member of that group since 1999.
A former president of the American Pharmacy Association, Dr. Gerbino earned his PharmD in 1970 and BS in pharmacy in 1969 from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. He is the 2006 recipient of the Phi Lambda Sigma-Procter & Gamble National Leadership Award and has worked for more than 30 years as an educator and administrator at his alma mater, having served as dean of the school of pharmacy and vice president of academic affairs before assuming the presidency. He also retains the title of “Linwood F. Tice Professor” at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.
University of the Sciences is a Division II member of the NCAA. Ten of its 12 intercollegiate teams currently compete within the 13-member Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) which has members in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. The USP mixed and women’s rifle teams hold membership in the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference and the National Rifle Association.
