University of the Sciences in Philadelphia libero Claire Tauschek DPT’11 was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference Volleyball Team on Nov. 11, 2008. The Verona, Wis. native was chosen as a first team selection by the league's 13 head volleyball coaches.
This is Tauschek’s fourth selection to the All-CACC volleyball team and her third as a first team honoree. She was a first team All-CACC selection in both 2005 and 2006, and a second team selection last season. Tauschek is only the second volleyball player in the University’s history to earn All-CACC honors during all four years of play. She joins the ranks of Emily Roth PharmD’08, who earned first team selection four times and Breht Mieckowski MPT’04, HS’04 who earned all-conference honors once with the NAC and three times with the CACC.
Tauschek led the Devils with 412 digs and an average of 4.38 digs per set during the 2008 season. Her per set average is high amongst the CACC leaders and is currently ranked 67th nationally. Early in the season, she became the first University of the Sciences’ volleyball player to record 2,000 career digs. This achievement, coupled with her more than 200 career aces, designates Tauschek as one of only seven NCAA Division II players in history to reach both career marks, and as the third libero to do so.
The former Middleton (Wis.) High School athlete became the University’s all-time digs leader in late Sept., recording her 1,881st dig against Southern New Hampshire University to surpass Roth's four-year total of 1,880. Four matches later, Tauschek reached the 2,000 digs mark in a match against Chestnut Hill. Tauschek is the Devils' all-time leader in digs, with 2,132, and ranks 28th on the NCAA Division II all-time list. Both her 5.21 digs per set average and 203 career aces are the best in University history.
Tauschek, a physical therapy major, has completed her fourth and final season of play for the Devils.
