For the Spring 2011 semester, Dr. Claudia Parvanta, professor and chairperson of behavioral and social sciences, and the Dorrance H. Hamilton Media Commons at WHYY partnered to develop a special course for undergraduate and graduate students to learn about health communication and produce public service announcements about important health topics.
"We had a great mix of students from seniors to doctoral and professional degree seekers," said Dr. Parvanta. "A creative, "high tech" project like this levels the playing field, and we were all beginners. The students were really pleased with their final videos, and I'm very proud not only of what they accomplished, but the energy they put into it as well."
The students came to the Public Media Commons for five sessions, learning video production. They wrote, shot, acted, and edited their own public service announcements which inlcuded:
- Cyberbullying
- Eating Disorders
- Underage Drinking
- Elderly Medication
- Get Into It
- Hang Up the Keys
- Think Pink, Go Green!
