When University of the Sciences began hosting The Summer Institute for Middle Grade Science Teachers a number of years ago, the goal was to give grade school teachers tools to enhance the classroom experience of Philadelphia’s students.
One of those recent attendees returned to USciences to give her students a hands on look at science in action. Charlene Jablow, a teacher from Abigail Vare Elementary School and two-time Summer Institute participant, brought 25 of her students for a half day of science fun on December 14.
Summer Institute faculty Associate Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry Dr. Catherine Bentzley, Biological Sciences Lecturer Catherine Purzycki B'83, and Professor of Biological Sciences Dr. Lois Peck showcased the wonderful world of chemistry, exploration of DNA, and an animal diversity activity.
The Summer Institute is currently seeking funding to keep the program going.
