University of the Sciences in
Philadelphia recently presented the 2009 Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching to
Laura A. Mandos, BS, PharmD, BCPP, associate professor of clinical pharmacy and assistant dean of pharmacy programs, on May 20 at the University’s graduation ceremonies.
The Lindback Award, which is funded through a gift from the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation, is given annually to a faculty member recognized by the students as the most outstanding instructor at the University. Mr. Lindback was the president and principal owner of Abbotts Dairies Inc., and the Foundation created the award to honor excellence in training activities and superior teaching skills of a tenure-track faculty member from colleges or universities within the dairy's service area of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. Award recipients are nominated by the students and selected by a committee of both students and previous faculty awardees.
“It is wonderful to see that Dr. Mandos’ long service to the students of University of the Sciences, her commitment to teaching, and her ability to stimulate student interest in her areas of expertise have been acknowledged,” said University Provost Dr.
Russell J. DiGate. “This is a well-deserved honor.”
Dr. Mandos has been an investigator in more than 130 Phase II, III, and IV clinical drug trials and has published multiple original research articles. She serves as a psychopharmacology consultant to the Delaware County Office of Mental Health and is the sole pharmacist on the editorial board for Prevention Magazine. For most of her academic career, Dr. Mandos has held a joint faculty position at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine as adjunct associate professor of psychiatry. Dr. Mandos’ areas of expertise include psychopharmacology and psychiatry, mood and anxiety disorders, late luteal phase dysphoric disorder, schizophrenia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Dr. Mandos is a board certified psychiatric pharmacotherapist.
Dr. Mandos received her bachelor’s degree from
Ohio Northern University and her doctor of pharmacy degree from
Northeastern University. She completed a post doctoral residency in psychopharmacology at the University’s Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. Dr. Mandos is a native of
Canton,
Ohio, and currently resides in
Boothywn, Pa.
