The
USciences campus will be open for classes and normal business on Wednesday,
Oct. 31 following the unprecedented hurricane that shut down the Philadelphia
region for two days.
USciences
President Dr. Helen Giles-Gee sent the following message to the community on
Tuesday morning after the conditions on campus had been assessed:
Dear Campus Community,
After touring the campus and getting positive reports from
Dan Severino, Director of Facilities, and Shawn Woods, Director of Public
Safety, I have approved the re-opening
of the campus on October 31, 2012,
Wednesday morning. All classes and offices will reopen for their regular
Wednesday schedule of operations. Dining services will reopen for regular
service as well.
I am especially grateful to all staff that stayed on campus
to assure that our students were safe and our facilities remained sound.

Reports
indicated that the campus came through the storm with little damage.
"The
University has weathered the storm, and I am happy to report there are no major
issues on campus," said Severino.
"Power distribution up to this point has not been an issue.
Facilities has been working to clear branches down around campus and address
building leaks. The campus will be ready for the start of business
tomorrow."
A number
of staff from Student Affairs and Resident Life, in addition to those who live
on campus, as well as Public Safety and Facilities, stayed throughout the storm
to ensure the safety of the students.
As it did
throughout the storm, dining services will continue to serve the needs of
students and staff.
"We
opened at 11 a.m. on a brunch schedule till 4pm, and then will reopen from
4:30-7pm for dinner," said Todd Young, Sodexo general manager. "The
grill, Traditions, the salad bar, and other assorted goodies will be
available."
Of course
the continued safety of students, faculty, and staff continue to be of highest
priority. Students who commute and are unable to make it to campus due to local
conditions please notify your instructors. If any faculty or staff experience
local conditions that prevent them from coming to work, please notify your
immediate supervisor. If you are a faculty member, please notify students via
Blackboard and/or Angel and contact your department chair, if you anticipate
canceling a class.
