October is National Physical Therapy Month - an opportunity to learn more about the therapists committed to helping people get back in motion. To spread the word about their profession, the Student Physical Therapy Association (SPTA) planned a host of activities for members of the University community.
The SPTA launched the month of celebration on Tuesday, Oct. 13 by getting hands-on with the fastest growing wheelchair sport in the world: quad rugby. For the third year in a row, the Magee Eagles Quad Rugby team took over the court in the ARC Rec Gym for a scrimmage, and to educate students on the sport and offer spectators a chance to play with the team.
One of the biggest events of the fall semester, SPTA collected donations and raffled-off prizes throughout the evening.
The spirit of friendly competition will continue when two university programs go head-to-head during the annual Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy volleyball game on Thursday, October 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Quad. All proceeds from the quad rugby scrimmage and volleyball game will go to the Magee Eagles Quad Rugby team.
The month’s activities will culminate with a bake sale in the McNeil STC lobby on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds from the goodies will go toward SPTA.
