The University of the Sciences men's basketball team received the 2009 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Team Sportsmanship Award. Individually, men's basketball player Adewale Adefemi PMM’11, and women’s players Erin Chesnavich BI’10 and Allison Weiss HS’10 grabbed all-conference selections.
The CACC Team Sportsmanship Award is given to the team in each sponsored conference sport that best exemplifies the spirit of athletic competition and sportsmanship. The voting for this award is done by the league's 12 coaches. The men's basketball team is the second University of the Sciences team to earn the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award during the 2008-09 sports year, joining the women's tennis team.
Adefemi (Winslow Township High School/ Chesilhurst, N.J.) was a CACC third team All-Conference selection. A forward, his 7.2 rebounds per game average currently rank him sixth in the CACC. Adefemi also ranks second in the league in offensive rebound (3.11/game), 12th in defensive rebounds (4.07/game) and 15th in the league in scoring.
On the women’s side, Chesnavich and Weiss were a first team and third team selection, respectively. This year's selection marks the second-consecutive all-conference selections for both Chesnavich and Weiss.
Chesnavich (Bishop O'Reilly High School/Pittston, Pa.) is currently ranked sixth in the CACC in scoring (16.2 points per game) and leads the league in field goal percentage (56.2%). The forward is the only CACC player ranked in the top eight in a total of seven different categories, ranking third in rebounding (9.5/gm.), seventh in blocked shots (1.19/gm.), eighth in free throw percentage (81.3%); fourth in defensive rebounds (6.37/gm.) and eighth in offensive rebounds (3.11/gm.).
Weiss (Springfield HS/Springfield, Pa.) leads the league in free throw percentage (90.4%) and is ranked 12th in the league in rebounding (7.3/gm.). The forward also leads the Devils in assists averaging 2.74 per game and ranks 13th in the CACC.
