Peter Harvison, PhD, was presented with the Honorary Alumnus Award at University of the Sciences’ Alumni Reunion on Sept. 29, 2012. The award is presented to a non-alumnus/a who has shown exemplary dedication and commitment to the mission of the University.

Dr. Harvison has been a faculty member at University of the Sciences for nearly 26 years and is currently the Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology. He has taught thousands of students in the USciences pharmacy program as well as undergraduate and graduate pharmacology and toxicology programs.
He has previously received the Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching and was named the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Teacher of the Year. His research focuses on metabolism of drugs and chemicals and the mechanisms of chemically-induced liver and kidney damage. He has mentored 13 graduate students, has received research grants from the National Institutes of Health and has 29 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Harvison met his wife, Dr. Janice A. Gaska, while she was a faculty member at the former Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (now USciences). They live near their families in Wilmington, Delaware, and share interests in dogs, birding, visiting wildlife refuges and photography.
