The following message was sent by Dr. Russell J. DiGate to the campus community on Oct. 1, 2009:
Since Mayes College of Healthcare Business and Policy was established, the College has continued to grow in its scope and reputation. In addition to establishing excellent academic programming, the college was charged to develop and nurture external relationships for both itself and the University as a whole. To this end, the College has performed admirably; however, we have reached a point where it now makes sense to focus University external relationship efforts into a newly created Office of Strategic Business Development.
The Office of Strategic Business Development will advance the University's external development charge. The establishment of the office will further bridge the efforts already underway by Susan Barrett, vice president for corporate relations and business development, and Liz Bressi-Stoppe, vice president for community partnerships.

Ashton
|
As the founding dean of Mayes College, Bill Ashton has played a pivotal role in the College's success. Given his business background, I am asking Bill to head the Office of Strategic Business Development and assume the title of associate provost and vice president of strategic business development. Bill will utilize his connections in academia and the business world to actively pursue strategic partnerships, business relationships, and academic opportunities for the University. With a dual title, he will report to the president's office for non-academic relationship development and to the provost's office for matters that pertain to academia. Bill will always be recognized as the founding dean of Mayes College, continue his appointment in the College, and act as a resource.
