With an eye toward meeting the future needs of students, Mayes College of Healthcare Business and Policy officially changed the name of its BS and MBA business programs to Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business. The name change better reflects the program’s mission and ultimate goal of enhancing employment opportunities.
”Right now, we are evaluating the curriculum to make sure it meets the needs of healthcare providers, payors and other related segments,” said Dr. Patricia R. Audet, the chair of the department. “Ultimately, it will be beneficial to give our students access to more Mayes College courses such as those in public health and health policy that can be better integrated as we look at a broader degree.”
Audet is no stranger to the University having graduated in 1976 with a degree in pharmacy and in 1978 with her PharmD. She spent 10 years as a PCP faculty member before moving on to SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals in 1989. She left this past year after advancing to a vice president position at the merged GlaxoSmithKline to join Mayes College.
”We want to meet the needs of not just those in the pharmaceutical industry but other business needs that our occupational therapy and physical therapy students may have,” said Dr. Audet.
The changes were approved by the Mayes College Faculty Council and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Students currently enrolled in these programs have the option of selecting the new degree or continuing with their original degree titles. The titles will be officially changed for students entering the programs after January 2010.
