USciences to ‘Fight Back Against Breast Cancer’ at Fourth Annual Pink-a-Thon: The Athletic/Recreation Center (ARC) at USciences will transform into a sea of pink next month, as hundreds of students and members of the University community gather for the fourth annual Pink-a-Thon on Friday, Oct. 25, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Hundreds Gather for IPEX Beam Signing Party: More than 1,000 members of the USciences community gathered Thursday, Sept. 12, at a Beam Signing Party, to celebrate the construction of the new academic building, the Integrated Professional Education Complex (IPEX), and leave their mark on a steel beam that will be part of the building structure. Introducing the Integrated Professional Education Complex (IPEX): In order to better define the new healthcare education and training building rising on campus, USciences is renaming it the Integrated Professional Education Complex (IPEX).

USciences Graduate PA Program to Double in Size Next Fall: Now in its inaugural year, the graduate physician assistant program at USciences is already expected to double its size next fall as students realize this demand will translate into jobs after graduation.

Skinny, Fat, Old, Young: All at Risk for High Cholesterol: Karin Richards, interim chair of the Department of Kinesiology and program director of health sciences, addresses important heart-healthy tips to help college students avoid serious health conditions down the road.

Ninth Annual Physical Therapy White Coat Ceremony:Nearly 70 USciences students were given their white coats on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the annual ceremony. More photos from the ceremony can be found on USciences' Facebook page.

Save the Date for Exciting Speakers and Events:

USciences will host the Mid-Atlantic Pharmacology Society’s 2013 Annual Meeting, an annual meeting of the minds between pharmacology academics, industry professionals, and students, on Oct. 7, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In observance of National PA Week (Oct. 6-12), USciences will host Larry Herman, president of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. A reception will be held afterward. Students, staff, faculty, and alumni in all disciplines are invited to attend.

As part of the recognition of October as physical therapy month, PT is hosting the 13th Annual Patricia Leahy Memorial Lecture on Thursday, Oct. 3. This year’s CE talk “Shoulder Dysfunction Post-Breast Cancer,” features Dr. Pamela K. Levangie from MGH Institute of Health Professions. Learn more: usciences.edu/leahy.

Leo Gianacopoulos P'79 has been named senior vice president of pharmacy operations for Biomed Pharmaceuticals.

Al Gennaro
C’48, PhD, died on Sept. 15.  He is survived by his wife Cele McCormick Gennaro C’48, and their five children. Dr. Gennaro served as dean of graduate studies, chair of the chemistry department, and chairman of the editorial board of Remington Pharmaceutical Sciences. He also received the annual alumni award in 1987 for his outstanding contributions to sciences and mankind.
