Construction on New Building to Begin Later this Year: USciences completed another step towards the construction of a new, approximately 55,000 square-foot addition to the University’s Science and Technology Center.

Provisional Accreditation Granted for Grad PA Program
USciences has received accreditation - provisional for its graduate physician assistant program. This is the first step towards accreditation and the University can now begin recruiting students for its inaugural class in the fall of 2013.

Noncommunicable Disease: The Global Challenge
Sir George Alleyne, director emeritus for the Pan American Health Organization, will present "Noncommunicable Disease: The Global Challenge" as part of the third annual Lois K. Cohen Endowed Lecture Series in Global Health on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Humanities Department presents the 2012 Bernard Malis Memorial Lecture by VaTech's Dr. Tom Ewing on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at 4:30 p.m. The talk will look back at the great flu pandemic of 1918.

Jack D. Korbutov PharmD ’11 opened an independent compounding pharmacy, The Art of Medicine, on September 4.  His pharmacy specializes in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, veterinary medicine, and pain management. The Art of Medicine is located at 507 S. 2nd St., Philadelphia.

1976
Dr. Joseph Betz
BI’76, MS’83, PhD’88 of the Office of Dietary Supplements at NIH will be presenting a talk on his research to the Complementary and Alternative Therapies Class on Oct. 10, 2012 for Drs. DerMarderosian and Hussar. Dr. Betz was a former graduate student of Dr. DerMarderosian and his son Curtis Betz Phys’16 is a freshman student in the physics program here.

1966
Prayoon (Saiphatana) Rukskul P’66 and her husband Arthit are both retired and living in Thailand. They raised a son and two daughters, and have three grandchildren.

IN MEMORIAM
Raphael S. Share P’50 died on May 11, 2012. He owned pharmacies in Northeast Philadelphia and Mount Laurel, N.J., before retiring in 1983. He then became a VA staff pharmacist in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., before retiring again. Survivors include his son Robert.
