Back-to-School Donations Requested
To kick off the school year the Department of Campus Recreation is teaming up with the Student Recreational Committee and the Timmy Foundation to sponsor a “Back to School” Fundraiser. From Monday, August 21 until Friday, Sept. 30, they are looking for back-to-school supplies to donate to KIPP West Philadelphia. Supplies including and are not limited to pens, pencils, book bags, notebooks, folders, highlighters etc.  Please bring all donations to the ARC front counter.

Dr. Vincent Willey Named USciences Faculty Athletic Representative
Dr. Vincent J. Willey P’92, PharmD’99, associate professor of pharmacy, has been appointed the University’s Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR).

USciences Student-Athletes Named Academic Achievement Award Winners The Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) announced the 2010-11 recipients of the DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards and it included 33 USciences student-athletes, the most from the CACC.

Class Notes

Francesca (Biamonte) Kemeter
PharmD’02 and her husband David announced the birth of son Ryan on June 10, 2011. He weighed 6 lbs., 7 oz. This is the first child for the couple, who reside in Bel Air, MD.

Zachary T. Hopkins PharmD’08 and his wife Toni are the proud parents of Benjamin Conroy, born on November 29, 2010 weighing 8 lbs., 11 oz.

Matthew P. Stratton BI’11 has joined the Coalition for Christian Outreach, a nonprofit organization located in Pittsburgh. Matthew will be working with students from The Ohio State University, Marion Campus and Marion Technical College in partnership with Trinity Baptist Church.

Friends of USciences
William F. Connolly, Jr. passed away on May 11, 2011. Mr. Connolly was treasurer and comptroller of the University from 1960 to 1980. His wife, Marie B. Connolly, was treasurer of the Women’s Club (now called the Friends of USP) from 1974 to 1985. Mr. Connolly was a well-respected member of the University community. In addition to his many years of service, Mr. Connolly generously supported several University initiatives including the J. W. England Library, the Annual Fund and multiple scholarship funds.  He also established the Marie B. Connolly Scholarship in loving memory of his wife.  The endowed scholarship fund provides grants in the name of the Women’s Club to upper-class students, on the basis of scholastic achievement and financial need.

Summer Happy Hour, July 30, 2011
Over 60 alumni and friends came together at the annual USciences Summer Happy Hour. The event, hosted by the Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Relations, took place at the Laguna Grill Martini Bar in Brigantine, NJ. The weather was picture perfect, the ocean was clear, and the food and beverages were plentiful. We were happy to see our veteran guests and welcome a number of first time attendees.

Close to 50 alumni, friends, faculty, and staff gathered at the fabulous Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton for an alumni reception. After dinner and drinks, University president, Dr. Philip Gerbino, spoke and updated the group on campus news.
