Undergraduate Admission Counselor

Position Title: Undergraduate Admission Counselor
Department: Office of Enrollment and Admission
Reports to: Executive Director of Admission

Position summary:
The Admission Counselor will make a strong contribution to the University’s recruitment, admission and enrollment activities by representing the University and supporting the enrollment of an increasingly diverse and talented class.  This professional will take a lead role in increasing the outcome of students that continue through the admissions process from inquiry to enrolled student. 

This position calls for an outgoing, articulate individual who can interact with potential students and their families to build the reputation of the university and provide detailed information about academic opportunities, scholarship, financial aid and campus life. The ideal candidate should have an understanding of and appreciation for the selective, private college admission process as well as a comfort with marketing and sales activities leading to student enrollment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver strong customer service as a point of contact for inquiring students and applicants in a professional and timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with Executive Director(s) and other Associate Directors as well as key members of the University in order to meet enrollment targets.
  • Responsible for management of a segment of the applicant pool, including application review, file maintenance, and appropriate communication leading to enrollment of qualified candidates.
  • Interview and counsel prospective students seeking admission to the University.
  • Serve as off-campus recruitment liaison, planning, organizing, coordinating and evaluating off-campus recruitment strategy.
  • Support recruitment of current undergraduate students to graduate and professional programs offered at the University.
  • Participate in campus events such as open houses and accepted student days.
  • Participation with online recruitment activities; chat, social networking
  • Generate enrollments by advising students throughout the enrollment process.
  • Plan, organize and execute recruitment travel itinerary. Travel is essential to the success of this position. Evening and weekend hours are required, though seasonal. Represent the University at events including college fairs and school visits.
  • Carry out administrative functions that include data management and written communications.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree required; degree in Science, Marketing, Education, or a related field is beneficial. Masters degree preferred but not required.
  • At least 1 year experience working in a college or university setting, preferably in an Admission Office or closely related office serving the college community.

Licenses/Certifications Required:
Valid driver’s license; proof of insurability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Self motivated with the ability to work/travel independently and set priorities to achieve goals/objectives.
  • A strong commitment to customer service.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Confidence speaking in small/large groups and with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Marketing, sales, public relations experiences helpful. Comfort engaging in sales oriented communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a cooperative team-focused work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate volunteers.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in travel and work flexible hours (some nights and weekends included)
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and various student information system technologies. Datatel experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of trends in college admission and understanding of the admission process is preferred.
  • Comfort transporting 15-20lbs of recruitment materials. Standing for long periods of time may be required.
