The laboratory of Professor John Tomsho in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at University of the Sciences invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will participate in research experiments in the fields of synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry and biochemistry. This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal. Extension of the appointment will be contingent upon the availability of adequate funding and performance. Salary is commensurate with experience and benefits include health/dental insurance, vacation/sick leave, and access to University facilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The researcher will carry out advanced independent and/or directed research to achieve the objectives of the research project. Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the fields of synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and biochemistry. Collect and analyze data, including literature searching and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze collected data. Participate/assist in manuscript writing for professional publications. May also assist in grant writing. Lab management including: oversight/supervision of undergraduate and/or graduate students, providing training in various research methods, and lab/equipment maintenance. Other duties as assigned which may include attending scientific conferences and meetings.
Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Organic, Medicinal, or related fields of Chemistry.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Synthetic organic chemistry, chromatographic purification and characterization of compounds (optical, NMR, MS). Establishing and executing biochemical assays for enzyme inhibition. Experience in the preparation and handling of boronic acids and/or heterocycles is highly desirable. Experience in recombinant protein expression and purification is a plus.
