Physician Assistant (Part-time)

Physician Assistant, Student Health & Counseling (SHAC)
Part-Time, 10-Month – 2 days/14 hours per week

Purpose of the Job:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Health Services, the Physician Assistant (PA) provides primary medical care and health education to undergraduate and graduate students within the authorized scope of practice, applicable state and federal statutes, and under a collaborative practice agreement with a consulting physician, including:  clinical evaluation and diagnostic testing, treatment, health provider consultation/referral and case management/follow-up.

Additionally, the PA contributes to the design and delivery of high quality healthcare services that promote students’ personal resilience and professional mastery, insure careful stewardship of University resources, make effective use of information management technologies, cultivate strategic partnerships with health allies and incorporate systems-level health promotion practices.

Major Responsibilities:

Key professional performance domains consist of the following:

  • Provide direct service delivery and clinical care management with appropriate monitoring, collaboration and referrals
  • Support the Associate Director of Student Health to develop strategic planning and administrative policies, protocols and procedures
  • Development of effective working relationships with SHAC and Student Affairs colleagues, institutional stakeholders, student clientele and their families
  • Adherence to applicable professional ethics as well as local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies with specialization in Family Practice or Adult Care
  • 3-5 years’ work experience in primary health care
  • Strong critical thinking capacity and solution-oriented problem-solving orientation
  • Strong interpersonal communication and interdisciplinary team member skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong electronic information management skills
  • Experience providing women’s healthcare services (gynecology/family planning)
  • Experience delivering tailored health education and health promotion programs
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse patient population, in particular regarding service delivery to individuals of East Asian and/or South Asian decent

Licenses/Certifications Required:

  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Pennsylvania Board of Medicine Physician Assistant Licensure
  • DEA certifications
  • BLS certification
