The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy (PCP), the founding college of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphiainvites applications for the Burroughs Wellcome Endowed Chair in Pharmaceutics available starting July 1, 2013. The Burroughs Welcome Chair is located within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and was established in 1995 in honor of Silas M. Burroughs and Sir Henry S. Wellcome, two graduates of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy known for their interest in dosage forms and innovations in drug delivery. The intent of this endowment is to “ensure academic vitality, industrial relationship and faculty and student research at the College, in perpetuity, thus continuing the Burroughs and Wellcome legacy”. The successful candidate will support this mission through an excellent record of innovative research, a sustained record of external funding and demonstrated abilities in faculty and student mentorship. The Burroughs Wellcome chair is expected to be a leader at University of the Sciences in pharmaceutics research and will actively participate in research initiatives at the university.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in pharmaceutics or related sciences with an interest in research program development. The candidate must possess a distinguished record of research and service commensurate with the rank of full Professor. Successful candidate will complement the expertise of USciences faculty in traditionally strong fields of pharmacy and will potentially play an important role in a proposed Center for Pharmaceutical Research. Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating skills in leadership and collaborative research with demonstrated mentorship and teaching abilities.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is comprised of 13 tenure-track and 2 non-tenure track faculty members. The department offers degrees in the fields of pharmaceutics, pharmacology/toxicology, and pharmaceutical sciences with ~40 graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D.) and ~80 undergraduate majors. The department also contributes significantly to the Doctor of Pharmacy program. Faculty members are active researchers and maintain ongoing funding from federal, private and industry sources. In addition to the standard research infrastructure and a wide array of analytical instrumentation, the department maintains the university’s AAALAC-accredited vivarium and industrial pharmacy laboratory.
