Why Plan a Gift?

GIFT PLANNING IS A CHOICE of many donors who seek to have an impact on USciences for years to come. Gift planning options benefit both the donors and the University, and these stories speak to a very special commitment to our community and its future.

Thomas StonesiferA Lasting Legacy: Thomas Stonesifer P'59 and his wife, Mary, feel they owe a lot to University of the Sciences. After all, their business, the Park Avenue Pharmacy in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, is built on Stonesifer's Philadelphia College of Pharmacy education. That is why the couple decided to establish a charitable remainder trust, which yields an annual income and tax benefits for them, even as it opens doors for USciences students. "It's a great way to express our appreciation to Tom's college," says Mary.

Glenn UllyotPathways to Success: Glenn Ullyot learned about University of the Sciences secondhand but, eight years after his passing, continues to have a firsthand impact on its students through the Glenn and Barbara Ullyot Endowed Scholarships. As a researcher at Smith Kline and French, now GlaxoSmithKline, Ullyot hired many USciences graduates to work with him developing new drugs. His admiration for their professionalism led to a relationship with the University and the decision with his wife, Barbara, to establish a charitable remainder trust. Barbara Ullyot saw important benefits. "Glenn was always grateful for the scholarships he received in school," she said. "The gift also offered me extra financial protection."

Ruth L. SchemmInsurance for the Future: In her teaching, practice and scholarship, Ruth L. Schemm, Ed.D., focuses on making lives measurably better through occupational therapy. When the Dean Emeritus of the Samson College of Health Sciences chose to improve the futures of USciences students, she planned her life insurance gift to the institution she has called home for 15 years. "I support USciences because it is an authentic community ─ a small town in a big city," says Schemm. "Great faculty colleagues, administrators and staff, and wonderful students and alums make this a special place."
