Rules Governing Examinations

1. Students should be in their seats and ready to take the exam during the five minutes prior to the scheduled time for that exam. Students arriving late will not receive extra time to take an exam. No student will be able to take an exam if other students have already left the exam room.

2. In courses with more than one section, students cannot switch sections except in extenuating circumstances. Contact the instructor for details.

3. In general, a grade of zero will be entered for all missed quizzes and examinations, including quizzes and exams missed due to lateness. At the discretion of the instructor, a makeup examination may be permitted if there are extenuating circumstances, usually only in cases of medical, family, or other emergencies. These circumstances must be documented. The makeup exam may not have the same point value or format as the original exam. To make up an exam, students must obtain a makeup form from the instructor, have it signed by the student and the instructor, and returned to the instructor within a week of the missed exam. In general, a student may make up only one exam. A grade of zero will be entered if more than one exam is missed.

4. Students must be prepared to take their exam. Coats, purses, papers, notes and books must not be taken to the examination seat. In general, only writing materials and calculators, if required, are permitted. If hats are worn, the cap must face backwards.

5. Students are not allowed to share calculators. No other electronic devices, including cell phones, are allowed.

6. Conversation between students, regardless of its nature, is forbidden, as is transmission or solicitation of information of any kind.

7.The instructor will announce the number of pages and total points for the exam. Make sure your exam is complete by counting the number of pages and total points. Exams must be kept on the flat on the benchtop directly in front of the student. Do not take exams apart. Fill in the bubbles on the scantron not only for the answers to your multiple choice questions but also for your name and student identification number. The scanner will not read any exam unless all required fields (name and student ID) are filled in and you will lose all points for those questions.

8. Large letters cannot be used to respond to multiple choice questions. Writing large responses on the scantron or on the question sheet is not allowed.

9. At the conclusion of the exam, students must hand in all of their question sheets, answer sheets, and the scantron to the proctor and may not discuss the exam with each other until AFTER all students from all sections of the course have taken the exam. Before turing in your exam, count the number of pages for youe exam to assure you are turning in a complete exam. You will lose all points for any missing pages for your exam.

10. No grades will be dropped.

11. Graded examinations and assignments will be available for student review for a minimum of 10 University business days after the grades are made available to the students. The individual instructor may elect to provide a longer period of time for review of graded materials. However, as general policy, faculty members are not expected to retain graded materials for more than 45 days beyond the end of the semester.
