Miriam Diaz-Gilbert has been a faculty member at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia since 1999. She is the Director of the Writing Center and a lecturer in Writing Programs. She teaches WR 101 – Writing and Rhetoric I and WR 102 – Writing and Rhetoric II: ESL and the Puerto Rico study/travel course.
Diaz-Gilbert is the author of English for Pharmacy Writing and Oral Communication, published in 2008 by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
In 2002, Diaz-Gilbert received a Lindback Foundation Research Grant to study the writing skills of advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) students whose first or best language is into. Diaz-Gilbert also received a USciences Summer Research Grant to study the vocabulary knowledge of pharmacy students whose first or best language is not English. Both research studies are published in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education.
Diaz-Gilbert has been a nominee for the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, for the USciences Student Club Advisor and in 2008 was named Outstanding Academic Advisor of the Year.
Diaz-Gilbert serves on the Board of the International Society for Exploring Teachng and Learnning (ISETL) and also serves as the Chair of the Board Recruitment and Nominating Committee. She also serves on the Conference Publicity Committee and is the editor of the ISETL newsletter. Diaz-Gilbert is also a member of CWPA (Council for Writing Program Administrators), PWPA (Philadelphia Writing Program Administrators), MAWCA (Mid-Atlantic Writing Centers Association) and IWCA (International Writing Centers Association).
Diaz-Gilbert is also advisor to The Prescription, the student newspaper of the University of the Sciences
Before coming to University of the Sciences, Diaz-Gilbert taught at Camden County College, University of Delaware, Community College of Philadelphia and the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University and other colleges and universities.
In 1995, the Camden County Chapter of the American Red Cross bestowed upon her the Good Neighbor Humanitarian Award for her volunteer work and commitment to multicultural understanding.
