Dual Degree Program with The Commonwealth Medical College

University of the Sciences has an articulation agreement with The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) through the Premedical Scholars Program that helps you make a direct entry to medical school. Our special arrangement with TCMC offers guaranteed interviews to TCMC for students who meet specific requirements for possible admission to the Doctor of Medicine program. Application is by invitation only.

About The Commonwealth Medical College

Located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, TCMC focuses on providing community-based, patient-centered, and inter-professional education. You will receive early clinical exposure to families while following a primary care mentor as early as your first year in the professional program.

Strong consideration will be given if you meet the eligibility requirements outlined below and are a resident of Northeast or North Central Pennsylvania with an interest in serving a rural community.

4+4 BS/MD Dual Degree Program

As a student in the 4+4 program, you will complete four years at USciences as any major, followed by four years at TCMC, earning both Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees.

Eligibility Requirements

High School Applicants:

If you are a highly motivated student in your final year of high school, you are eligible to apply to this program provided you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum test scores: Old SAT 1150 (Critical Reading & Math), or New SAT 1220 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing & Math), or ACT 25 (composite)
  • Minimum high school grade point average of 3.40 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to serve as a primary care provider in rural communities in Northeastern or North Central Pennsylvania
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident
Current USciences Students

If you are currently enrolled at USciences, you should notify your pre-med advisor and apply no later than the end of your second undergraduate year (U2) for the 4+4 program. You are eligible to apply to the program provided you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.5 
  • No course grade less than a "C"
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to serve as a primary care provider in rural communities in Northeastern or North Central Pennsylvania
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident

4+4 Program Requirements for Possible Interview

In the 4+4 program, you must satisfy the following criteria for consideration of an interview at TCMC:

  • Fulfill all of the requirements of your respective major at USciences
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.5 
  • No course grade less than a "C"
  • Minimum overall MCAT score of 509 and 125 in each section
  • Apply to TCMC through AMCAS with the endorsement of the Pre-Health Professions Advisor
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to serve as a primary care provider in rural communities in Northeastern or North Central Pennsylvania
