Dual Degree Program with the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University

University of the Sciences has an articulation agreement with the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University (PCO) that helps you make a direct entry to optometry school. Our special arrangement with PCO offers guaranteed interviews to PCO for students who meet specific requirements for the 3+4 program, guaranteeing a total of 2 seats each year for qualified USciences students. Application is by invitation only.

Strong consideration will be given if you meet the eligibility requirements outlined below and are interested in practicing optometry.

3+4 BS/OD Dual Degree Program

As a student in the accelerated 3+4 program, you will complete three years at USciences as a biology or biomedical sciences major, followed by four years at PCO, earning both Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Optometry (OD) degrees.

Eligibility Requirements

High School Applicants

If you are a highly motivated student in your final year of high school, you are eligible to apply to this program provided you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum test scores: Old SAT 1150 (Critical Reading & Math), or New SAT 1220 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing & Math), or ACT 25 (composite)
  • Minimum high school grade point average of 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become an optometrist
Current USciences Students

If you are currently enrolled at USciences, you are eligible to apply for consideration if there are seats available. You should notify your pre-med advisor and apply before the end of your first undergraduate year (U1) or no later than the end of the spring semester of your second undergraduate year (U2). You are eligible to apply provided you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum overall USciences GPA of 3.0 at the time of application
  • No course grade less than a “C”
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become an optometrist

3+4 Program Requirements for Guaranteed Interview

In the 3+4 program, you must satisfy the following criteria to qualify for an interview at PCO:

  • Completion of a minimum of 102 credits of the 127 credits required for the BS in biology or biomedical sciences
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 by the end of the first undergraduate year (U1)
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.3 at the time of application
  • No course grade less than a "C"
  • Competitive OAT scores
  • Apply to PCO through OPTOMCAS with the endorsement of the Pre-Health Professions Advisor
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become an optometrist
