Dual Degree Program with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

University of the Sciences has an articulation agreement with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) that helps you make a direct entry to medical school. Our special arrangement with PCOM offers guaranteed interviews to PCOM for students who meet specific requirements for the 3+4 and 4+4 programs, guaranteeing a total of three seats each year for qualified USciences students. Application is by invitation only.

About the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) is dedicated to the education of students in medicine, health, and behavioral sciences. The College fosters the growth of the osteopathic profession by training physicians through programs of study guided by osteopathic medical tradition, concept, and practice. Strong consideration will be given if you meet the eligibility requirements outlined below and are interested in practicing osteopathic medicine as a primary care physician. 

Program Options

As a student in one of the following Dual Degree Programs, you will complete either three or four years at USciences, followed by four years at PCOM, earning both Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degrees.

3+4 BS/DO Dual Degree Program

In our accelerated 3+4 program, you will complete three years at USciences as a biology or biomedical sciences major. Upon successful completion of your first year of PCOM, you will receive your BS degree from USciences. Following successful completion of four years at PCOM, you will receive your DO degree.

4+4 BS/DO Dual Degree Program

In our 4+4 program, you will complete four years at USciences as any major to receive your BS degree. Following successful completion of four years at PCOM, you will receive your DO degree.

Eligibility Requirements

High School Applicants

If you are a highly motivated student in your final year of high school, you are eligible to apply to this program provided you meet the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of 4 years of high school mathematics and science
  • Minimum test scores: Old SAT 1150 (Critical Reading & Math), or New SAT 1220 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing & Math), or ACT 25 (composite)
  • Minimum high school grade point average of 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become a primary care provider in the tradition of osteopathic medicine
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident
Current USciences Students

If you are currently enrolled at USciences, you are eligible to apply for consideration if there are seats available. You should notify your pre-med advisor and apply before the end of your first undergraduate year (U1) for the 3+4 program or no later than the end of the spring semester of your second undergraduate year (U2) for the 4+4 program. You are eligible to apply to one of these programs provided you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.5 upon completion of the first undergraduate year (U1) for the 3+4 program
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.25 upon completion of the second undergraduate year (U2) for the 4+4 program
  • No course grade less than a "C"
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become a primary care provider in the tradition of osteopathic medicine
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident

Program Requirements for Guaranteed Interview

3+4 Dual Degree Program Requirements

In the 3+4 program, you must satisfy the following criteria to qualify for an interview at PCOM:

  • Completion of a minimum of 102 credits of the 127 credits required for the BS in biology or biomedical sciences at USciences
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.5 upon completion of the third undergraduate year (U3)
  • No course grade less than a “C”
  • Minimum MCAT scores in the 50th percentile of each section
  • Apply to PCOM through AACOMAS with the endorsement of the Pre-Health Professions Advisor
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become a primary care provider in the tradition of osteopathic medicine
4+4 Dual Degree Program Requirements

In the 4+4 program, you must satisfy the following criteria to qualify for an interview at PCOM:

  • Fulfill all of the requirements of your respective major at USciences
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.25 upon completion of the third undergraduate year (U3)
  • No course grade less than a “C” Minimum MCAT scores in the 50th percentile of each section
  • Apply to PCOM through AACOMAS with the endorsement of the Pre-Health Professions Advisor
  • Other evidence of scholarly/professional potential and demonstration of the desire to become a primary care provider in the tradition of osteopathic medicine
