Biochemistry is an exciting, active area of science. As a biochemistry major, you will study the molecular basis for the processes that take place in living systems, such as growth, motion and reproduction, as well as the effects of the environment on living organisms.
Building on a firm foundation of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, you will go on to integrate biology and chemistry at a more advanced level through a comprehensive curriculum, research with faculty, and laboratory experiences using sophisticated instrumentation and equipment.

Biochemistry is the study of the chemicals and chemical reactions that are found in biological systems. As a biochemist you’ll become familiar with the large molecules and complex structures that make up living things. You’ll use advanced techniques—including nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray crystallography and fluorescence spectroscopy—as an integral part of this work. And you’ll have a wide range of industries to work in, as well as graduate and medical school as options.
