Research Interests

Dr Timko’s research interests fall into the area of eating and weight regulation, eating disorders, and obesity.   Within this area, she has a number of specific foci.

  • The treatment and prevention of anorexia nervosa in adolescents.
  • Use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to treat adolescents and children with weight and food concerns (including pediatric obesity).
  • The construct of “restrained eating” and how it is similar and different to self-identified current dieting in normal weight women.
  • The study of emotional eating.
  • Implicit assessment of attitudes towards the body, food, and weight behaviors – specifically using the Implicit Relational Assessment Procedure (IRAP).
