Biography
Dr. Gans earned his Doctor of Pharmacy and Science from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. Prior to this, he completed a residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He also earned his Bachelor in Science from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.
Dr. Gans was most recently the Executive Vice President and Executive Officer of the American Pharmacist Association in Washington, DC. While, in this position membership doubled and revenues increased 6 fold. The Associations named was changed from Pharmaceutical to Pharmacist and its redeveloped its iconic headquarters building on the National Mall in Washington renovating and expanded leasing space 7 fold and increasing value to $200 million. Supported the Doctor of Pharmacy degree to become the standard education to qualify for license to practice in the United States. Along with a reinvigorated APhA Foundation completed the research which led to the expansion Pharmacy practice into medication therapy management service to improve chronic disease care and in to Federal law and the expansion of pharmacist practice authority to administer immunizations in all states. Partnered with several organizations to form the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board which has certified over 350,000 technicians in the US.
Dr. Gans was the Dean of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science from 1988 until 1989. Prior to this, he was the Chair of the Department of Pharmacy from 1978 until 1988. Dr. Gans was also the Managing Director of Pharmservices, a company which primarily offered consulting activities to nursing homes, from 1974 until 1985.
